Cat Soup
What is this animation about (big idea/key concepts/ themes, etc)?
- The Struggle to overcome death, and the risks associated with doing so
What artmaking strategies (conceptual/ technical/ visual) does the artist use to illustrate the theme? What is the artist’s point with example? Assess the effectiveness of the example.
- When the main cat's sister gets her soul stolen by a certain god, he rushes to get it back only to find that it has made her incomplete. The artist uses the ambiguity of the characters to reflect in us our own interpretations of each character and how we relate them to the felines.
Give a personal response or ideas on how the animation(cat soup) might help you create your own animation.
- I appreciate how each character has no real set of values, limitations or boundaries. This free's the viewer to allow objects/people/places to be interpreted in their own way. By creating immense ambiguity the artist has allowed us to create our own imaginings and draw our own conclusions.
